That home winning streak had to end at some point, but losing it to DC Power at The Stables still stings. The defending champions fell 2-1 on August 29th, with DC controlling large stretches of the match and doing more than enough to earn three points on the road. The first half was competitive early, with both sides generating chances. Then, right before halftime, Alyssa Bourgeois was caught with a handball in the box and DC Power had a penalty. Loza Abera's initial spot kick was saved by Ryan Campbell, but Abera was first to the rebound and put it away in the second minute of stoppage time to send DC into the break with the lead. It was a gut punch of a goal to concede, the kind that shifts all the momentum. DC came out in the second half looking like the better team and Emily Colton made it 2-0 in the 68th minute, converting as DC continued to force mistakes out of Lexington's back line. Lex Sporting pulled one back late in stoppage time to make the scoreline look a little more respectable, but it wasn't enough and DC held on for the 2-1 win. The numbers don't lie — DC outshot Lexington 19-13 and won 78.6% of their tackles compared to just 53.8% for the home side. This wasn't a match where Lex Sporting was unlucky. DC Power came in prepared, pressed well all night, and deserved the win. To be fair, it was also only the second game of a brand new season, so there's plenty of time to sort things out. But dropping two points at home is never the plan, and the seven-match home winning streak that had made The Stables a genuine fortress since last March is now over. The Fall 2026 season is still very young at 1-1-0, but this was a wake-up call. The opener against Brooklyn made it look like everything was carrying over seamlessly from the championship run. DC Power showed that's not going to be the case every week. The club has two weeks before the next home match to figure out what went wrong and come back sharper.
