It's happened again. Lexington SC dropped three straight matches between August 26 and September 5, and the details are what make this one worth stopping on: the Greens held the lead in two of those three games before losing them late. At New Mexico United on August 26, Marqes Muir scored his first professional goal to put Lexington up 1-0 in the 51st minute. New Mexico answered with two goals five minutes apart late in the second half, a strike from Kipp Keller in the 73rd and one from Niall Reid-Stephen in the 78th, to steal it 2-1. Three days later at home against Colorado Springs Switchbacks, Lexington couldn't find the net at all in a 0-1 loss, its only shutout loss of the stretch. Then came Sporting JAX on September 5, a team that came into the match with the worst record in the league. Lexington fell behind early, fought back to take a 2-1 lead, and looked like they'd finally get the result they needed. Instead, Jacksonville tied it in the 88th minute and won it with a header in the 94th. Two goals conceded in the final six minutes decided the match. That's the same story from the Louisville and New Mexico losses back in July: a team that competes hard for most of the match, then loses its grip in exactly the moments that matter. One bad week is an outlier. Two separate incidents, months apart, with the same signature, is a pattern. Whatever's happening late in these matches, whether it's fitness, focus, or something tactical, it's costing Lexington real points in a tight playoff race.
